SOUTHERN SPAIN
An exploration of Andalusia, Spain, must begin with Seville, Córdoba, and Granada as the fundamental hubs of interest. All the romantic images of Spain spring vibrantly to life as one explores the streets filled with shops selling flamenco costumes, tapas bars, strolling guitarists, illustrations of matadors and bull fights, and sidewalk cafes spilling over with tourists from all corners of the earth. The famous Seville Cathedral towers over the city, a destination for all who come here to experience old world charm, horse drawn carriages, and glorious formal gardens. Strategically located on the north bank of the Guadalquivir River, Córdoba was once the Roman and Moorish capital of Spain. Its historic quarter, clustered around the famous mosque, the Mezquita, remains one of the country's grandest and yet most intimate examples of its Moorish heritage. Granada is one of Spain's most spectacular historical World Heritage cities. Each year, millions of tourists and international students visit this remarkable city. Granada is located on one of the foothills of the snow capped Sierra Nevada Mountain ranges. It remains as a testament to the last great Moorish kingdom in Spain. Sprawling over two main hills, the Alhambra and the historic neighborhood, called the Albaicín, is filled with romance and charm. One of the most memorable things to do, is to sit on a terrace opposite the Alhambra with a glass of red wine, and watch the golden light as the sun sets over this phenomenal national monument.
